Robert Ricks

Robert G. Ricks, 74, of Montross, passed away on August 12, 2022.

Robert was born on July 12, 1948, at Scott Air Force base in St. Claire, Illinois. He graduated from Colonial Heights High School and Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Art History. He is preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Helen Ricks. He is survived by his spouse, David Edmondson; sisters, Theresa A Simpkins (Mike), Barbara Pastore (Fletcher), and Mary E. Roberts; nieces, Brenda Chasen (Jeff), Libbie Roberts, Erin Hingst (Karl); nephew Mark Simpkins (Lorraine); great-niece, Melissa Thornhill Parris, great-nephews, Mitchell Martin, Mason Martin, Luke Hingst, Tyler Hingst; great-great niece Tempi Thornhill and great-great nephew Hayden Thornhill.

Robert achieved the rank of NCO Sargent while serving his country as an MP in the United States Air Force with duty stations in Texas, Illinois, Michigan, and Arizona and abroad in Vietnam. Robert retired from the Fairfax County, Va Department of Health and Human Services.

Robert was always able to "make good things possible." Whether it was finding off-base housing for a young enlisted family, driving a nurse on her home-visit rounds in a dangerous neighborhood, or just talking to people wherever he went, offering ideas and telling wonderful stories to brighten their day. Robert also had a life-long passion for gardening and sharing plants and pictures with friends and family. He also enjoyed a good treasure hunt in an antique store that he would always happen to find as he meandered along an "off the beaten path" road that somehow always got him to his destination.

We will miss him dearly.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m., one hour before the service. Interment will take place at Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George.
