Robert Riiber

Robert William Riiber, of Hopewell, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 24, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond. He was born September 11, 1957, in North Carolina to Suzanne Olmstead and William Deinema, and raised from the age of 3 by his mother, and adoptive father, Harald Riiber in Oslo, Norway. He was preceded in death by his biological father, William Gordon Deinema, and his son, Nicholas Deinema Riiber.

Robert was a retired structural engineer, who loved playing golf, and driving fast cars while blasting Johnny Cash. He was heavily involved in local amputee support groups, and he provided useful insight to VCU physical therapy students as part of their clinicals.

He is survived by his wife, Tibisay; daughter, Kirsten Riiber, of Chicago, IL; stepson, Cesar Navas and wife, Caroline DeGuzman, of Severn, MD; stepdaughter, Tiffany Navas and husband, Brett Baseley, of Annapolis, MD; mother and father, Suzanne and Harald Riiber, of Oslo, Norway; sister, Kris Ann Riiber and husband, Karl Hoiseth, of Oslo, Norway; brother, Gunnar Riiber and wife, Kjersti Melgaard, of Oslo, Norway; brother, John Riiber and wife, Ann Kristin Saetre, of Oslo, Norway; and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Norway.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.  Interment will follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens 11302 Merchants Hope Road, N.
