Robert Dale "Chief" Vaughan, 75, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on December 1, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert H. Vaughan and Mildred G. Vaughan, maternal grandparents, Emma G. and Julius Gay, paternal grandparents, Inez S. Puckett and her husband, Lee. Chief was a lifelong resident of Colonial Heights; he was a graduate of Colonial Heights High School class of 1966 and was an avid baseball player for the American Legion Post 284. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam doing basic training at Fort Benning, GA., followed by an 18-month tour in Okinawa, Japan. Chief loved playing country music on his guitar, loved cutting grass, almost daily, watching Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and enjoyed watching golf, especially The Masters. He also liked NASCAR and the Washington Redskins, even though they rarely won, "Same old Redskins" he would say. But most importantly, he loved his wife and two precious daughters. He loved and greatly enjoyed spending time with his three beautiful grandchildren. Pawpaw was at every sporting event cheering them on and was their number one supporter. He would do anything and everything for his family and friends. Chief was also known as a jokester. You knew every time you saw him, he was going to tell you a joke. A trait his grandchildren inherited and will certainly carry forward. Chief was a 20-year salesman for Bob Evans Farms and retired in 2010. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 42 years, Sylvia Jones Vaughan, daughters, Jennifer Vaughan Richard (Wesley III) and Ashley Vaughan Coughenour (Russell); sister, Janet Vaughan Traylor (Keith" Spotlite"), grandchildren, Joseph Dale Richard and Chesney Marie Richard and Emma Gayle Coughenour,. nieces Anna and Tanner, his best friends Barry Young "Chin" and Don Vandermee, and numerous cousins.
