Roberta “Bobbi” Jean Eaton Cozens, 81 of Chesterfield, passed away on 9 July 2024. Bobbi’s nursing career spanned almost 60 years.
She received her bachelor’s of nursing from Columbia Union College, her master’s of nursing from The Catholic University of America, and Nurse practionership from University of Florida. She started her nursing career as a public health nurse in Washington DC. She then worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where she met her husband, George, of 56 years. Bobbi then taught nursing at Prince George’s Community College. After moving to Chesterfield, Virginia, she worked in labor and delivery at Chippenham Hospital before teaching nursing at John Tyler Community College. She went on to become the head of the Nursing Department there. After moving to Tampa Florida, she was an Education Specialist Mother/Baby at St. Joseph’s Hospital. It was in Tampa that she completed her nurse practitioner education. Upon returning to Virginia (Chesapeake), she was a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She worked to earn her certification as a lactation consultant and worked at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. After moving back to Chesterfield, Bobbi continued her work as a lactation consultant at St. Francis Medical Center. Upon retiring, Bobbi just couldn’t give up nursing and volunteered at Crossover Healthcare Ministry. During her career she also sat on the board for the March of Dimes and she also volunteered at the University of South Florida health clinic.
She was an active member of the Nifty Fifties…Plus group in the Highlands. She was co-leader for the Mah Jongg group and the Third Friday Game Night. She also coordinated the New Year’s Eve party for the last several years. She loved all the activities she participated in over the years with the group. More importantly she loved all the friends she made in the group.
Bobbi is preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Letha Eaton; her brother, Robert; and her nephew, Robbie.
Bobbi is survived by her beloved husband George; daughters Jennifer Cozens and Joanna Cozens; her granddaughter Jordan Cozens; her sister-in-law Patricia Eaton; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Jean Cozens; her goddaughter Jessica Yeager; her nieces Janine Ballato, Jackie Duignan, and Julianne Thomas; her aunt Virginia Berlin; and many cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bobbi can be made to the March of Dimes.
