Roger Hamrick

Roger Heyward Hamrick, 73, of Chesterfield, VA went to be with the Lord November 30th following a courageous 2-year battle with cancer. He was born near Shelby, NC and graduated from Gaston Tech with a degree in Electrical Technology. He began his career with Dominion Virginia Power in 1963 and retired after 39 years of service in his final position of Project Manager. He took those skills to a position at The Heights Baptist Church as a project manager for the site development and relocation of the church in a different location. Roger is survived by his wife of 53 years, Julia Ann (Koolman) Hamrick, a daughter Sherri Colton and husband Russell of Reading, Pennsylvania, a son, Ashley Hamrick and wife Sandra of Chesapeake, Virginia, and five grandchildren - Andrew and Clay Colton, Allison Colton Porter, Shelby Hamrick Jones and Mallory Hamrick. He is also survived by his two brothers, Carrol Hamrick and Rick Hamrick of Shelby, NC. We very much appreciate the loving care he received in the Palliative Care and other units at VCU Medical Center. The doctors, nurses, and aides worked tirelessly to maintain his comfort. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at The Heights Baptist Church, 17201 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. A celebration of his life will be held at the church on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. A short graveside service will be held at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake, Virginia at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016.
