Roland Fontaine

Colonial Heights

Roland J. Fontaine, 90, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Southside Medical Center. He was born on February 14, 1931, in Rhode Island to the late Joseph L. and Edythe Blanchette Fontaine. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cindy F. Cummins and Bonnie L. Fontaine, and three brothers, Raymond Fontaine, Alfred Fontaine, and Russell Fontaine. Roland was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a former Lieutenant with the Colonial Heights Police Department and was with the department for 15 years. He was also the first Juvenile officer and the first Police Investigator. Roland was the Co- founder, President, and General Manager of Pro-Vend, Inc. from 1988 to 1997. He was a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post 284 for over 50 years and was the first Baseball Coach from 1960 to 1969, reaching the National World Series in 1961, placing fifth.  He was a past member of the Colonial Heights Optimist Club and was the Co-Founder of the Optimist Bib Tournament in 1958.  Roland is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Fontaine; son, Timothy S. Fontaine Sr. (Dona); two daughters, Lisa Marek, and Debbie Marek; grandchildren, Stephen Fontaine (Jennifer), Andrew Fontaine (Autumn), Amy Daly (Ryan), Jonathan Cummins (Arielle), Joey Cummins (Danielle), Matthew Marek (Jenny), Jason Marek (Esther); great-grandchildren, Gavin, Hadleigh, Chandler, Kennedy, Porter, Emma, Campbell, Ellison, Beckett, Logan, Dylan, and Lucina; one brother, Norman Fontaine; a son in-law, Mark Cummins; and numerous nieces and nephews.  A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Ron Kidd officiating. Interment will be Private.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Swift Creek Baptist Church, 18510 Branders Bridge Road Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 or to the Colonial Heights Fire and EMS, P.O.
