Ronald S. Woody, 71, passed away on October 20, 2017. Born on January 31, 1946, he was the son of the late Jarvis B. and Florence M. Woody. Upon graduation from the University of Richmond, he went to work for Chesterfield County Schools, teaching and coaching a variety of sports including basketball, baseball, and track and field. He also served as an athletic director. He retired from Prince George County Schools, where he served many years as an assistant principal for both J.E.J. Moore Middle School and later, Prince George High School. He was a member of the Central Virginia ASA Umpires Association for twenty-five years. In his retirement years, he worked for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and became an ordained minister, working with youth groups in two different churches. One of his greatest joys was serving as a Chaplin to various high school athletic teams in southern Virginia. It was also his great honor to serve as Chaplin to the dedicated firemen of Chesterfield County and the Enon volunteer fire department. Mr. Woody was a deacon at Second Branch Baptist Church. His main focus in life was serving his Savior Jesus Christ and leading others to Him, and loving his family and many friends. He is survived by loving wife, Jo Ann; two daughters, Rebecca Daniel and husband, Tony, Tracey Phillipps and husband, Rob; and two precious grandchildren, Carter and Kasey Phillipps. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Second Branch Baptist Church, 12217 Second Branch Road, Chesterfield, VA 23838, with Dallas Bradbury officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday night, November 2, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
