Rosa Whirley

Rosa May Whirley, 89, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Golden Living Center - Petersburg. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Wells Burton, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Whirley Jr. and a son, Kenneth H. Whirley Sr. Rosa May was a long time member of Western Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She is survived by her children, Robert W. Whirley Sr. and wife, Kathy of Petersburg, John E. Whirley of Stony Creek, Stoney L. Whirley Sr. and wife, Pat of Petersburg, and Joseph Wheelhouse of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Kenneth H. Whirley Jr., Tanya W. Spiers, Robert W. Whirley Jr., Jason M. Whirley, Stoney L. Whirley Jr., Daniel Gravitte, and Janet Hambrick; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, Aubrey B. Whirley of Petersburg, and Kenneth S. Whirley of Henrico; and her nursing home roommate, Mrs. Ruth Edwards. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Joyce Harville officiating. Interment Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday (tonight) at the funeral home.
