Roselyn Hancock

Roselyn Garnet Harris Hancock 87 of Matoaca, VA passed away peacefully June 10, 2017 at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents Christine and Roy Harris, brother Donald Harris, sister Mary Lodge, husband James Hancock, daughter Sharon Hancock, and son Norbert Hancock. Born in Covington, KY on August 20, 1929 she spent most of her adult life in Matoaca, VA where she raised her family. Rose retired from Firestone in Hopewell. A friend to all and a benevolent member of her community Rose was always willing to help others. Also known as the "Cookie Lady" she always had home baked gifts for anyone feeling down or just perfectly happy. She is survived by her son James Hancock II., (Tiffany) of Matoaca and daughter Barbara Hancock-Henley of Mechanicsville, six grandchildren Erica (Tony) and Paul Bogese, Lauren (Andrew) and Ashley (Scott) Hancock, John and Roselyn Henley and one great granddaughter Claire Hancock-Tarpley. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Matoaca United Methodist Church 6301 River Rd, South Chesterfield, Virginia 23803 with the Reverend Richard S. Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in East Matoaca Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, June 12, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. In lieu of flowers in honor of Rose, please bake a child some homemade cookies, help someone in need or be kind and helpful to a handicapped person.
