Roy Barrack

July 8, 1947 — November 30, 2021

Colonial Heights

Roy Bayne Barrack, 74, of Irvington, died November 30, 2021, with his family at his side.

Roy was born on July 8, 1947, in Irvington to the late Lee R. Barrack and Isla Mae Barrack.

He attended Lancaster High School before being drafted in 1969. He was a medic in Vietnam and was honorably discharged after he was wounded.  He was presented medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Roy always said that the Northern Neck was his home and his slice of heaven. He loved the caring nature of the people and being on the water. As an adult, he returned from service and settled in Colonial Heights. Roy raised his daughter to trust in Jesus’ plan when life did not go as planned. He would often say to “Give it to God and then wash your hands” because He has it. He retired after working at Fort Lee for 30 years.

He never met a stranger, and his smile and laughter were contagious. To know him was to love him. He told great stories and made sure to make himself the starring role in some epic tales. He loved life and sharing his joy with anyone he could.

He is survived by his daughter, Alexa Perkinson and her husband, Joey Perkinson who he loved as his own.  He had one beloved grandson Carter Bayne who was his namesake and the apple of his eye.

Roy is also survived by his sister, Virginia Mae Knudsen (Allan), of Glen Allen and Jean Barrack Simmons (Andrew), of Kilmarnock. Roy had three nephews including Virginia Mae’s son David Knudsen (Kelly), of Glen Allen. Jean had two sons, Stewart “Andy” Simmons (Karen Ann), of Kilmarnock and Stephen Lee Simmons (Honey Taylor), of White Stone.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
