Roy Jay Tyler, 63, of Church Road, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Born in Petersburg on August 14, 1961, he was the son of the late Nancy Jessup and Raymond Lee Tyler Jr. Roy had a deep appreciation for nature and spent much of his life in the woods and on the water, always seeking the next great adventure. Whether it was tracking deer, or waiting patiently by the shore for the perfect catch, he found solace and excitement in the wild. Roy’s love for the outdoors was rivaled only by his passion for good food. He believed that a hearty meal was one of life’s greatest pleasures, and he never turned down a home-cooked meal. Roy loved spending time with family, friends and watching a good Georgia Bulldogs game. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janet Tyler; daughters, Amanda Smith (Johnathan), and Alison Adams (Colton); sister, Janice Bain (Jim); grandchildren, Caroline Smith, Savannah Smith, Madelyn Smith, Elena Adams, Peyton Adams, and Tyler Adams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 South Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
