Ruby Patterson Downing Ruby Patterson Downing, 79, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late John Quincy and Mabel Estelle Miles Patterson. Mrs. Downing was a lifetime member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Dennis A. Downing, Jr.; one son, Andy Downing and his wife, Angie; a daughter, Kelly Burton and her husband, Chris; three grandchildren, Danielle and Drew Downing and Jack Burton; one brother, Doug Patterson; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Franklin Mills officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local SPCA in memory of Mrs. Downing.
