Ruth Wilson Covington, 98, of Colonial Heights passed away Tuesday November 11, 2014 at River View on the Appomattox in Hopewell. A native of Dinwiddie County she was born to the late Charles Harrison and Lula Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Verty Covington, Sr.; her son, Albert Verty "A.V." Covington, Jr.; two brothers and three sisters. In June of 1985, she moved to her daughter's home in Chester. After her stroke in 2006, she entered River View on the Appomattox. Ms. Covington was a former member of Smith Grove United Methodist Church and the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens Club and a former employee of J.C. Penney's and Lerner's in downtown Petersburg, Virginia. Ms. Covington is survived by a daughter Diane Covington Fender of Lanexa, daughter in-law Karen B. Covington of Colonial Heights, grandchildren Jennifer F. Cordo and husband Joey of Chester, Michael J. Fender and wife Kandy of Chester, Mary Ruth Covington Long and husband Terry of Colonial Heights, Ann Marie Covington of Savanah Georgia, Albert Joseph "A.J." Covington of Colonial Heights, Stephanie Lynn Covington of Richmond, ten great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday November 14, 2014 in Blandford Cemetery Petersburg, Virginia. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard.
