Ruth D. Hale, 89, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2009 at Southside Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late George E. and Mamie Wyatt Dewsbury, and the widow of Thomas C. Hale. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Brockwell, and Evelyn Boisseau Rott, and a brother, Merle Dewsbury. She was a life long member of Monumental Baptist Church. Mrs. Hale retired from C&P Telephone Company (Verizon). She was a member of the Alpha Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #1, and the Pioneer Club. She is survived by a daughter, Donna H. Hatfield and husband, Jon of Chester; a son, Tom Hale and wife, Debbie of Prince George County; two grandchildren, Nathan Hatfield, and Ashley Baldwin and husband, Brad; a great-grandchild, Berkley Baldwin; a sister, Vivian Cooper of Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009 in the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road with the Reverend Barry Ginn officiating. Interment Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to Monumental Baptist Church, 2925 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
