Ruth Rich

Ruth C. Rich, 76, of Colonial Heights, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021, at her residence.  She was born February 4, 1945, and was preceded in death by her father, William Vernon York; mother, Edith Fisher Hall; first husband, James Walter Taylor Sr.; brother, William Jefferson York; and stepmother, Bessie York.  Ruth was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Petersburg, Virginia, and the Chapter of Alpha Omega Master of Beta Sigma Phi.  She retired after 32 years as a machine operator with Philip Morris.  Ruth is survived by her son, James Walter “Pete” Taylor Jr.; daughter, Sherry Lynne Hinson; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Y. Cole, and Louise Y. Burfoot; and numerous nieces and nephews, longtime friend, Steven Finch. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Virginia.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 22, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
