Ruth Martin Schrum, 90, of Chesterfield, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017, at her home. Born May 18, 1927, in Chesterfield, Virginia, to the late John Luther and Dora Elam Martin, Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. "Mitz" Schrum, Sr. Mrs. Schrum was a founder and a lifelong member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church. She often volunteered at Southside Regional Medical Center and was an active member of the Young at Heart Group, as well as the Southside Striders. "Mom always had a smile and a hug for everyone she met." Mrs. Schrum was previously employed at Allied Chemical and Dupont. She is survived by her son, Robert C. "Bob" Schrum and wife, Judy; two grandchildren, Troy Schrum and wife, Tricia Schrum, and Beth Schrum; great-grandchildren, Jessica Schrum Williams, Dawn Schrum, Deven Neace, Brooke Neace, and Reid Neace; great-great-grandchildren, Mason Williams, Owen Williams, and Makenna Dickey; sister, Mary "Tight" Ramsey; nephew, George "Hoot" Houston; niece, Betty Anne Seigman and family; her step-grandchildren, Ashton Pond, Jr. and wife, Leah, and LeeAnn Wilson; step-great-grandchildren, Jake Wilson, Abbey Wilson, and Arden Pond. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Sandy Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Virginia.
