Samuel Joseph Lewis Sr., 79, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Thursday July 7, 2011 at Chippenham Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Arthur B. Lewis and Martha L. Lewis and was preceded in death by three brothers Wilbert W. Lewis, Russell D. Lewis, Arthur C. Lewis. Mr. Lewis was United States Army Veteran and was the owner of Lewis Garage and Tire in Dewitt for 41 years. He is survived by his son Samuel Joseph "Jay" Lewis, Jr., and wife Sheri S. Lewis of Petersburg, brother Alton D. Lewis and wife, Nancy N. Lewis of Dewitt, faithful and devoted friend Marie L. Plank of Petersburg, two nephews and one niece. A special appreciation to a special physician Dr. Raymond Makhoul and the entire nursing and medical staff at Chippenham Medical Center. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday July 11, 2011 in Hawkins Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery 7816 White Oak Road Ford, Virginia 23850 with the Reverend Carl Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday July 10, 2011 from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory 2033 Boulevard 23834.
