Sandra Lee Richardson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Sandra Lee Richardson. She suffered many years with Alzheimer’s disease, but she suffers no more. She is preceded in death by her father, Reverend Edgar Mortimer Richardson; her mother, Barbara Eloise Minter Richardson; her son, Tommy Sykes; brothers, Marvin Lewis Richardson and William Lawrence Richardson; and her sisters, Margaret Revels Richardson, Barbara Flowers Richardson, and Emma Jean Howsare Richardson. 

Sandra was born and raised in Danville, Virginia and spent the last several years with her daughter and caregiver, Shelley Sykes Johnston. Sandra leaves her children to mourn her, Rebecca Sykes Foster, Wendy Sykes Lowery, and Shelley Sykes Johnston; her grandchildren, Heather Wells, Dillon Courtois, Samantha Foster, Randall Sykes, Brandy Beahr, Savannah Lowery, Brittany Johnston, Corey Johnston, Matthew Johnston, and Caleb Johnston; and her great-grandchildren, Cullen Sykes, Haven Sykes, Teagan Courtois, Leighton Johnston, Charlee Lowery, and Kensley Foster. The family would like to give special thanks to her nurse, Brooke Patterson, and her CNA, Brandy Arnold with Gentiva Hospice for their loving and special care. 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834, with the Reverend Jonathan Dundlow officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
