Sarah H. Sylvester, 75, of Matoaca, formerly of Hopewell, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Born in Crewe, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Eunice Wray Harris, and the widow of James Nicholas Sylvester. Mrs. Sylvester was a member of the Matoaca United Methodist Church, and retired from the Chesterfield Plant of Allied Chemical. She is survived by two daughters, Linda S. Kofron and husband, Bill of Matoaca, and Teresa S. Irving and husband, Douglas of Hopewell; a son, James M. Sylvester and wife, Gayle of Matoaca; five grandchildren, Will Kofron, Jeremy Irving and wife, Crystal, Sarah Irving, Victoria Sylvester, and Tiffany Ickes and husband, David; four great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Kaelyn and Allie Irving, and Michael Langdon; a sister, Lizzie H. Spencer of Appomattox; two brothers, Joe H. Harris of Hopewell, and Lee V. Harris of Chester. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 in the Matoaca United Methodist Church, 6301 River Road, South Chesterfield, Virginia 23803 with the Reverend Richard S. Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Enon. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
