Shaun Michael Hankins II

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shaun Michael Hankins II.

Shaun, age 21, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 24, 2023. Although his time on this earth was short, he lived a life full of love and dedication to his family and friends.

Shaun was a hardworking employee at the Amazon warehouse in Dinwiddie. Outside of his job, he had a passion for cars and enjoyed working on them. He also had a deep love for animals from a young age and devoted a lot of his time, energy, and resources to rescue and care for animals of all kinds. It didn’t matter if it was a dog, cat, rat, squirrel or bird, any animal that needed help, Shaun was the first one to try and bring them into his home to rehabilitate them. His beloved dog, Nyla, passed away one week before Shaun did. He found her in very bad shape four years ago, took her in and gave her the life she deserved to have, caring for her and nursing her back to health. His passion for animals was evident to everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, April Pettifer Cole; grandfather, Steven Guernsey; and uncle, Matthew Hankins.

Shaun will be deeply missed by his mother, Donna Marie Guernsey and her husband, Jeffrey Knight; father, Shaun Michael Hankins; siblings, Cameron Guernsey, Isabella Hankins; grandparents, Norman and Sharon Lovin, James and Robin Bonds Hankins; great-grandmother, Peggy Kagels; aunts, Victoria Weaver, Tiphanie Hankins, Dominique Hankins, Laura Carnes, Alexandra Cox, Miranda Craft, Amy Perdue; uncles, Damien Hankins, James Hankins, Jr., Joseph Perdue; numerous cousins and other extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will be private.
