Shawn Paul Siegrist, 47, of Hopewell, Virginia, formerly of Altoona, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, surrounded by his beloved wife and daughters. Born July 9, 1975 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Darlene Patricia Siegrist and the late Thomas Scott Siegrist II.

He graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1993, where he developed a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to serve his community. He went on to serve his country with distinction as a United States Army veteran, contributing his talents and skills to Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti,  which he was very proud of.

Following his military service, he continued to demonstrate his commitment to public service, working tirelessly for the Pennsylvania State Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he retired in 2019.

He was always eager to engage with others, sharing his love for history, music, and sports. His passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State sports was compelling, and he could always be counted on to inject a bit of humor into any conversation.

He touched the lives of so many with his infectious laughter and warm smile and will be deeply missed by his wife of 25 years, Melissa Siegrist; two cherished daughters, Sydney and Serina Siegrist; mother, Darlene Siegrist; sister, Waverly Wright; grandparents, Patricia and Charles Young; in-laws, Robert II and Judy Rice; many aunts, uncles, cousins, “brothers” and countless beloved friends.

A celebration of life gathering will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., with presentation of military honors at 3:00 p.m., at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. A memorial service in Altoona, Pennsylvania will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
