Shelby Taylor Slayton 72, of Chester, passed away Friday April 9, 2010 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late William Howard and Margaret Hill Taylor. Mrs. Slayton retired as a Deputy Sheriff from Chesterfield County; she was a member of Ivey Memorial Methodist Church in Colonial Heights. She is survived by her husband Kermit M. Slayton, two daughters Janet Garton and husband Fred of Chester, Susan Slayton of Prince George, three grandchildren Scott Garton, Taylor Garton, Andrew Garton all of Chester, four sisters Betty T. Cronk of Midlothian, Barbara T. Rowland of Rocky Mount North Carolina, Mae T. Greiman of Midlothian, Nancy T. Montgomery of Knoxville Tennessee, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday April 12, 2010 at Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church 17120 Jeff Davis Highway Colonial Heights, Virginia, 23834 with the Reverend Tom G. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
