Shirley Adkins

Shirley Dean Adkins, 80, passed away on December 23, 2020 after having been diagnosed with lung cancer. She was born on April 5, 1940 in Robeson County, North Carolina to the late Ernest Dow Dean and Etta Greenway Dean.  She was preceded in death by her former husband, Jack Adkins; son, Charles W. Adkins; two brothers, E. B and Edgar Dean.  Shirley moved to Church Road, Virginia when she was 9 years old.  She had resided in the Colonial Heights area for the past several years.  She worked for Brown & Williamson Tobacco, Allied Chemical, Philip Morris, and retired from J.W. Ferguson in Richmond, Virginia.   She is survived her daughter, Carol Ann Adkins (Mike); sister, Evelyn Dean Moore (Bobby); niece, Sheryl Conyers (Monty); and three nephews, Daryl (Gayle), Larry, and Garry Crawford; she also leaves behind many good friends who will surely miss her.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
