Shirley Stevenson Slaughter, 81, of North Dinwiddie, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021. She was born in Petersburg, Virginia on November 19, 1939 and was a longtime member of Matoaca United Methodist Church. Ms. Slaughter enjoyed sewing and crocheting and loved to share her talents with those she loved. She always treated everyone like family and was loved by everyone she met. She will be missed by all those blessed enough to have known her. Ms. Slaughter was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Earl Stevenson and sisters, Carolyn Greek and Emily Thompson. She is survived by a special friend, Jerry Pond; children, Rhonda S. Munford (Michael), Mike Slaughter (Pam), John Slaughter (Laura), and Lisa Edwards (Elvis); grandchildren, Heather (Tim), Teri (Brian), Louis (Lesley), Megan (Marcus), Brandon, Jasmine (Ian) and Daiton (Christine); great-grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler, Lydia, Rylee, Tyson, Sydney, Abigail and Adalyn; sister, Edith Cataleno of Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends. Remains will rest at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805 with Rev. Richard Gordon officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Matoaca United Methodist Church, 6301 River Road, South Chesterfield, Virginia 23803.
