Shirley Jean Trovinger, 78, of Emporia, loving mother grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 with her loving family by her side. Born on January 8, 1937, she was the daughter of the late John Richmond Mitchell, Sr. and Helen Flo Horton Mitchell; and was also preceded in death by her husband, John L. Trovinger; and a sister, Betty Rogers. She was a member of the New Testament Independent Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, John C. Trovinger and wife, Jennie W.; two daughters, Denise L. and husband, Richard S. Phillingame, Jacqueline L. and husband, Leonard E. Cleaton; fifteen grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, John R. Mitchell; sister, Dorothy A. Muse; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015 in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, 11302 Merchants Hope Road, North Prince George, Virginia 23860, with the Reverend Bobby Utley officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
