Stanley Vincent Palmore, 91, of Petersburg, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017. He was the son of the late Charles Leslie and Jessie Newton Palmore and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Palmore; brothers, Robert and Charles Palmore; and a sister, Peggy Francis. Mr. Palmore was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights and a WWII United States Army Veteran, where he served with the 65th Infantry Division, Patton's Army. He retired with over 30 years of service from Allied Chemical. One day, a handsome gentleman noticed a lovely young lady singing in the choir at church. He asked around, found out she wasn't spoken for, and boldly announced to a friend, "I'm going to marry that girl one day." And marry that girl, he did. Stanley married the love of his life, Mary Lou Palmore, on June 15, 1948; they remained happily married for 67 years. Mr. Palmore is survived by a son, S. Bryant Palmore and wife, Pam; daughter, Karen Palmore Croom and husband, Jim; granddaughters, Lauren Brooke Palmore and partner, Andrew Campbell, Laura Elizabeth Simmons and husband, Adam, Katie Croom Young and husband, Dustin; one grandson, Jonathan Edward Croom; two great-granddaughters, Claire Elizabeth Simmons and Emma Lee Campbell; two great-grandsons, Griffin ("Finn") Sawyer Campbell and Cole Mitchell Simmons; cherished sister, Alease and husband, James Black; a sister in-law, Ann Burch Flanigan and husband, Ed; brother-in-law, Edward Jarratt; and special friends, Peggy Hayes, Jessica Witkovsky and family, Bill and Lib Bandy, Miriam Hatchett, Dorothy Coleman, Alice Lee, and Henry Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 620 Lafayette Ave, Colonial Heights, Virginia. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia. Additionally, the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
