Sterling M. "Bill" Vaughan Jr., MMC, USN Ret 82, of Colonial Heights, formerly of Dinwiddie, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010. He was the widower of Catherine R. Vaughan and the son of the late Sterling M. Vaughan Sr. and Ada Pearl Joyner Vaughan. Mr. Vaughan was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars; he also retired from the Colonial Heights School System as a refrigerator and air conditioning mechanic. He served on the executive board of Virginia AFL and CIO; he also was the president of the Petersburg Labor Council and President of the Distillery Workers Union, past Governor of the Dinwiddie Moose #1993, Old Dominion Moose Legion #148 and the Fellowship degree. Mr. Vaughan is survived by three daughters; Shelia Price and husband, Rick of Dinwiddie, Jennifer Bain and husband, Joe of Freeman, Jeanine Martin and husband Jim of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Jessica French, Laura French, Kristine Price, Phillip Runnels; three great grandchildren, Donavan Jones Jr., Camdyn Jones, and Lukas Price; two sisters, Zelma Conlee of Wilson and Edith Vaughan of Petersburg. Funeral services will he held 1:30 p.m. Monday November 29, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Dennis Joyner officiating. Interment Southlawn Memorial Park Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends Sunday November 28, 2010 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
