Thelma Brown

March 10, 1919 — April 7, 2012

Thelma S. Brown, 93, widow of Howard D. Brown Sr. passed away April 7, 2012 in Colonial Heights. A native of Petersburg and longtime resident of that city, she was the daughter of the late Daniel E. and Alice W. Starnes. She is survived by her son Howard D. Brown Jr. and wife Darleen of Henrico County, two granddaughters, Jessica P. Brown and Bonnie L. Brown of Petersburg and numerous nieces and nephews. A lifelong Methodist, for many years she taught the nursery at Wesley United Methodist, and for the past 35 years has been a member of St. Marks United Methodist. She was a past president of the Petersburg Federated Woman's Club and an active member of numerous other Petersburg civic and community organizations. Thelma will always be remembered by those who knew her for her friendly smile and kind words. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Dunlop House for the excellent care, compassion, and love shown to Thelma over the past three years. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday April 10, 2012 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard. Interment to follow in Blandford Cemetery Petersburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends Monday April 9, 2012 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
