Thelma Arlene Emory Samuel, 84, of Colonial Heights, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Medical College of Virginia of VCU. She was born May 25, 1933 in Claremont, Virginia, to the late Lawrence Hartwell and Nannie Mae Bell Emory, and was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Kenneth Franklin "Jackie" Samuel. Mrs. Samuel was a graduate of Surry County High School, Longwood College, and the Medical College of Virginia. She had a Bachelor's of Science degree in Medical Technology and an Associate's Degree in Business Education. She was a very active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights and was also a member of the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens Club. She retired from Southside Regional Medical Center as a Laboratory Technician. She is survived by two daughters, Shelby S. Johnson and husband, Shawn, of Colonial Heights and Karen S. Belcher and husband, Keith, of Prince George; grandchildren, Brandon Belcher, Valerie Daniels and husband, Patrick, Christopher Belcher, Amanda Belcher and fiancé, Wesley Warren; sister, Evelyn E. Barlow; brother, Lawrence W. Emory and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Shirley S. Mitchell and husband, Ray Holt; and numerous other special family members including an aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2017 in Immanuel Baptist Church 620 Lafayette Avenue Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with Mr. David Barlow, the Reverend Steve Lalk, and the Reverend Jerry Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Monday, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Church.
