Thelton Ray Rockwell (“T.R.”), 78, of Matoaca, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Born on January 18, 1946, he was the son of the late David Franklin Rockwell and Beulah Radford Rockwell. He graduated from Park View High School in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Thailand. After his return from the Air Force, he married Bonnie White Rockwell on December 18, 1971.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his daughter, Tammy Rockwell Strother; two granddaughters, Andi Suzanne N. Strother (Dalton Hayes) and Lani Elizabeth J. Strother; sisters, Margie Wallace, Marthalene Spivey, Bonita Dalton (Ernest); brother, Thomas Rockwell (Sandra); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Franklin Rockwell; and sisters, Magalene Dalton, Lois Mincey and Polly Gaskin.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of At Home Care and Hospice for all of the love and concern given to him. A special thanks to his hospice nurse, Vivienne Wicks (“Libbie”). The family could not have been blessed with a more loving and compassionate nurse. She not only took care of him, but she took care of us. She will always be a part of the Rockwell family. In addition, the family would also like to thank Kaitlyn Ferguson of (AHC&H), who was with the family immediately after his passing.
The Rockwell family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Gary Burton, Randy Dalton, Bennie Dalton, and David Wickstead for their support not only to him but to us during the last few years.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
