Thomas Shipp

Tom D. Shipp, 61, of Chester, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on June 24, 1954, he was the son of the late Dr. George Oscar and Joan Donovan Shipp, and was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ronald Lang. Mr. Shipp was the proud owner of Shipp's Heating and A/C for 35 years. During his time with his company, Mr. Shipp built long lasting relationships with colleagues and customers, which reflected how great of a man he truly was. He cherished his family, as he treasured his role as Papa, and embraced his friends, even his customers, as his own. Tom was a member of Enon Church of God, a car and music enthusiast, boatman and an avid angler, who also enjoyed surfing in his younger days. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sharon L. Shipp; son, Brandon D. Shipp; daughter, Ashley D. Pam and husband, Sarath; grandchildren, KiAsia, SaRiya and Elijah; mother-in-law, Barbara Lang; brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Michael Lang and Timmy Harrison; sisters-in-law, Darlene Lang and Shelby Harrison; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834, with Pastor Bryan Ogle officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805, or Enon Church of God, 900 Enon Church Rd, Chester, VA 23836.
