Thomas “Wayne” Simmons, 74, of Disputanta, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Born in Petersburg, Virginia on October 25, 1949, he was the son of the late Alexander J. Simmons and Mabel Cabaniss Simmons. He was also preceded in death by his older brother, John D. Simmons.

Wayne served in the United States Army in his younger years. He then went on to become a salesman, working various jobs throughout the last 40 years. He was a member of the Petersburg Eagles Club, and loved antiquing and fixing up the items he brought home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Kay R. Simmons; beloved children, Cherie McTiernan (Julie), David Simmons, and John Simmons (Amanda); grandchildren, Alexis Simmons, John Simmons, Jr., Mckenna Simmons, and David Simmons, Jr.; sister, Patricia Constantine (Larry); brother, Alexander Simmons (Janice); nephews, Todd Simmons (Danielle), and Jeremy Starr (Katherine); niece, Andrea Simmons; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

A memorial service and inurnment will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, in Southlawn Memorial Park’s Mausoleum, S. Prince George, VA. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, Colonial Heights, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, donate.cancer.org
