Thomas Smailes Jr.

Thomas Hunter Smailes Jr., 76, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg. Born in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Thomas Hunter Smailes Sr. and Bertha Mae Tompkins Smailes. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas H. Smailes III. Mr. Smailes was a United States Navy Veteran and had retired from Eastern Airlines. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Smailes; daughter, Debbie Polo and husband, Adriano of Colonial Heights; daughter in-law, Wendy Smailes of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Michael, Brian and Krista; brothers, Richard Smailes and wife, Becki of Florida and David Smailes and wife, Lauretta of Washington. Services will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 336 Mallard Drive Colonial Heights. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Thomas H. Smailes III, Band Scholarship, c/o Colonial Heights High School, 3600 Conduit Ave. Colonial Heights Virginia 23234.
