Thurman H. Mawyer, 75, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Tyler's Retreat of Iron Bridge, Chester. He is the son of the late Fletcher and Marie Fulford Mawyer, the widower of Dorothy M. Mawyer, and was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Quick. Mr. Mawyer was formerly employed by the Colonial Heights School System as a Custodian. He is survived by his daughter, Christine A. Lantau and husband, Douglas R. of Colonial Heights; a grandchild, Wesley D. Lantau of Colonial Heights; three sisters, Mildred Mawyer and husband, Thomas of Chester, Lillian Saunders of Colonial Heights, and Shirley Bradley and husband Bobby of Colonial Heights; two brothers, Warren Mawyer of Colonial Heights, and Fletcher Mawyer and wife, Hazel of Chester; five sisters-in-law, Nora Estes of Disputanta, Nola Cole of Kinder, Louisiana, Mary Hensley and husband, Bennie of Church Road, Voncille Elmore and husband, Joe of Sutherland, and Lonnie Ashmore and husband, Buddy of Pitkin, Louisiana; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Gizmo. A special thanks to Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, Hospice of Virginia, and Tyler's Retreat of Iron Bridge. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Joe Elmore officiating. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George.
