Velma Dunnavant

Velma V. Dunnavant, 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Howard T. and Ruth Pettus Dunnavant. Ms. Dunnavant was a member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg, AARP, Colonial Heights Senior Citizens, an alumna of the Johnston Willis Nursing Program, and was a registered nurse. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Heironimus and husband, Walter of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Elsie D. Slate and husband, William Sr. of Colonial Heights; a niece, Deborah S. Howard and husband, Gregory of Danville; two nephews, Wayne Heironimus and wife, Christine of St. Petersburg, Florida, and William Slate Jr. and wife, Christine of Powhatan; a great-nephew, Kyle Heironimus; and a great-niece, Karina Howard. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Robert Dawson officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
