Vera Eastman

February 21, 1927 — May 25, 2016

Vera Davis Eastman, 89, of S. Chesterfield, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Tyler's Retreat. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Lloyd and Julia Brooks Davis and was preceded in death by her husband Edward S. Eastman Sr. and her sister Madaline Davis Lewis. She graduated from Petersburg High School and moved to Richmond where she attended Smithdeal - Massey Business School. She retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1981 as the secretary to the Warden. She worked hard, made a lot of friends, and was well liked by all. She was a former member of the Elm Street Baptist Church in Petersburg until it closed and then moved her membership to Swift Creek Baptist Church in S. Chesterfield. She is survived by her son, Edward Eastman, Jr. and wife, Joan of Durham, North Carolina; daughter, Cheryl E. Moore and husband, Jim of Chester, Virginia; granddaughter, Christine M. Bivens and husband, Robert; grandson, Seth A. Eastman and wife, Laura; four great-grandchildren, Amaya, Landyn, Cayden, and Liam; a brother T.L. Davis and his wife, Margaret; two sister in-laws, Sue Marshall and Mildred Eastman, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2-3:00 p.m. on Saturday. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday May 28, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Steve Felker officiating. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 31, 2016 at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Swift Creek Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
