Vernell Vaughan "Pat" Varnier, 92, of Ettrick, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 at Brighter Living Assisted Living, Hopewell. Born in Chesterfield, she was the daughter of the late Otho B. and Bertha Barnes Vaughan, and the widow of James D. Varnier Sr. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in S. Chesterfield, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit #136. She is survived by her sons, James D. "Jimmy" Varnier Jr., Ted D. Varnier both of Chesterfield, and Ricky B. Varnier and wife, Pamela Alexander of the Northern Neck; eight grandchildren, Lori V. Martin, Holly V. Simmons, Allen Varnier, William Varnier II, Andy Varnier, Michelle V. Garrett, the Rev. Nate L. Varnier, and Sally V. Currence; and eighteen great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester with the Rev. Nate L. Varnier and the Rev. Ray Garrett officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
