Virgil A. Talley, age 91, of Church Road, Virginia, passed away early Sunday morning February 24, 2013 of respiratory failure. He was born at home in Sutherland, VA on March 24, 1921, to Virgil H. and Hannah Fenderson Talley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Talley, a son, Gregory G. Talley, two brothers, Wilbur and Jack Talley, and a very special friend, Annie Boze. He is survived by his children and their families: Dennis W. Talley (Tammy) of Chesterfield, David H. Talley (Gloria) of Church Road, Gary W. Talley of Petersburg, Douglas G. Talley of Hopewell, and Melinda Talley of South Chesterfield, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by a brother, Horace G. Talley of Chesterfield and a sister, Jean T. Woodruff of Colonial Heights, Paul Ross and Anne Ross, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to his caregiver, Tina Rivers, the doctors and nursing staff of Southside Regional Medical Center and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital. A special thanks to Ms. Kim Hall of Crater Hospice. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday February 27, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard. The family will receive friends Tuesday February 26, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers sent to the service, consider sending (or better yet), taking a bouquet of flowers to a loved family member or friend, to enjoy now. Dad also was an annual contributor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, and a donation there would also be appreciated.
