Virginia Ann Tench Cates, 86, of Matoaca VA, passed away on Friday, March 17th, 2023. Born in Petersburg VA on March 7th, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Virginia Simmons Tench. Virginia was a 1955 graduate of Petersburg High School and was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church since 1967. She served her community for 38 years as a member of The Ettrick-Matoaca Rescue Squad, and as a volunteer with Chesterfield County Fire & EMS Company 8. She loved to cross-stitch, and would try any type of craft.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Henry Cates; three son’s and their wives, Greg and Lisa, David and Angie, Scott and Lisa. She dearly loved her 5 grandchildren, Travis Cates and wife, Meagan, Brian Cates, Brooke Cates, and Ashlee Cates, and her great-grandchild, Magnolia (Travis and Meagan).
The family will receive friends from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. on Wednesday March 22, 2023, at Matoaca Baptist Church, 6409 River Road, Matoaca VA 23803. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road Petersburg, Virginia 23803.
