Vivian Harris

June 12, 1932 — August 3, 2013

Vivian B. Harris departed this Earth for her heavenly home on Saturday, August 3, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Lester I. Harris, and her son, the late Robert Steven Harris. Mrs. Harris was best remembered as a preacher's wife and loving mother and friend. She retired from Allied Fibers in Hopewell after 22 years of service. Mrs. Harris would claim two places as "home," Tarboro, North Carolina where her roots remain deep and strong. Colonial Heights, Virginia became her second home where she raised her family. Mrs. Harris was well loved and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son Lester I. Harris Jr. of Colonial Heights; and her daughter, Mary H. Bruce and son-in-law, John S. Bruce of Chester, Virginia. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy B. Harris of Tarboro, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Phillip C. Harris, Stephanie G. Johnson, David L. Harris, and Steven B. Gilmer; four great-grandchildren, Phillip C. Harris Jr., Andrew L. Harris, Madison R. Johnson, and Damien C. Harris. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Ryan Kidd officiating. Interment will be alongside her husband in Greenwood Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in Tarboro, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
