Vivian Brewer Marek, 70, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Edwin H. and Fleta Thornton Brewer, and was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Richburg. Mrs. Marek was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church, and a volunteer with the Special Olympics. Mrs. Marek is survived by her husband, Thomas Wayne Marek; two sons, Keith Wayne Marek and wife, Patricia of Dinwiddie, and Craig Allen Marek of Colonial Heights; a granddaughter, Kelly Nicole Lawson and husband, Donnie of Prince George; a great-grandson, Xain Wade Lawson; two sisters, Miriam Oldham and husband, Raymond of Charleston, and Patricia Jones of Georgetown, South Carolina; and a brother, Harold Edwin Brewer and wife, Despina of Charleston. The family would like to thank the staff of the Dunlop House Alzheimer's Unit for their care and compassion given to Mrs. Marek. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday May 27, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Felker officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
