On Friday, December 13, 2024, Vivian Elmore Wall, loving mother and Nana, passed away at the age of 97. Vivian was born on September 3, 1927 in Carson, Virginia. Her parents, Harrison Cabell Elmore and Mabel Saunders Elmore, raised Vivian and her sister (Jean) in a home where the girls were taught strong faith, good manners, and good morals. Vivian first met Harold Spencer Wall when she was in her teens. They married after Vivian finished 2 years of college at Longwood College in Farmville, VA. Vivian and Harold welcomed daughters Martha in 1950 and Deborah in 1953. Sunoco service stations became a big part of the Wall family’s lives. Harold owned and operated up to 4 Sunocos, with Vivian by his side. Martha and Debbie even helped to pump gas. While helping Harold, Vivian also worked as a bank teller at Wells-Fargo, first known as City Savings Bank. She retired from the banking industry in 1988. During her life, Vivian also served as a bookkeeper for 11 years at Old Dominion Gift Baskets, which her girls owned and operated. Vivian, her girls, and our friends had quite a time working together…lots of laughs and great memories! Thanksgiving and Christmas were always centered around home-cooked meals at her house. She was the matriarch of our family…the “glue” that held us together all year long! And, if anyone ever needed advice about how to do anything, Vivian was happy to tell them how it should be done! Love for Jesus and her family were her top priorities. Her 3 grandsons and 3 great grandchildren had great respect and admiration for Nana. Vivian developed dementia in 2020. This disease progressed until it became hard for her to communicate, even with those she loved. We all missed the Mom and Nana that we knew before dementia took hold. We are comforted knowing that she is now at peace with her Heavenly Father. Thank you, Vivian, for everything. We will always love you. Vivian is survived by her daughter Debbie Barnes Ott (Lonnie), son-in-law Donald Gunter (Robyn Green); grandsons Matthew Barnes, Eric Barnes (Lisa), and Robert Gunter; great-grandchildren Emma Kay Barnes, Allison Dawn Barnes, and Andrew Keith Barnes; nieces Melanie Aidiff (Glenn), Beverly Stinnett (Chris), Gail Schwabe (Dennis), Julie Wall McCall, and nephew Kenneth Horton (Barbara); special friends Lynn Watkins and Emma Moody. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2024, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Donna Mott officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
