Wade C. Holmes of Petersburg, Virginia passed away on May 23, 2011 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents Addie and Tommie Holmes, two brothers and one sister, two wives Opal and Mertys Holmes. He proudly served his country in World War II, Korea and Vietnam with twenty four years of service earning many medals, among them the Purple Heart. Upon his retirement he worked at Phillip Morris for twenty years before retiring. His passion was bowling and was on two leagues before his declining health and in earlier years he loved to hunt and fish. He was also a lifetime member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, where he loved to sing karaoke. Mr. Holmes is survived by a daughter, Shirley Viar and husband, Bubba of Richmond; two grandsons, Mundy Viar of Martinoz, California Wayne Viar and wife Susan; two great grandchildren, Jake and Lucy of Dacula, Georgia; one sister Edna Hudson of Alamogordo, New Mexico. He is also survived by stepdaughter, Carolyn Gill; step granddaughters, BettySue King and husband, Frank of Colonial Heights, Terry Davis and husband, Todd of South Carolina; step grandson Rick Martin; his love and companion Peggy Kagels of Colonial Heights, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Joe Carson officiating. Interment to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday May 26, 2011 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
