Wallace Alfred Redford, 90, of Colonial Heights passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his residence. He was born October 16, 1926 in Crewe, Virginia to the late Lewis Alfred and Mabel Stowe Redford, and was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Vermadel Burke Redford; three brothers, Garland and Calvin Redford of Crewe, and Bobby Redford of Amelia. In his early years, Mr. Redford was an electrical, plumbing and heating contractor. He was later employed with the City of Colonial Heights as Building Inspector, Deputy Director of Public Works, and was elected to serve the City as Commissioner of Revenue from 1982 to 1991. Mr. Redford was a member of Ettrick United Methodist Church, past member of the Colonial Heights Lions Club, a member to the American Legion Post 136 in Ettrick, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2239, and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans Dinwiddie Gray's Camp 2220. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the Army Air Force. Mr. Redford loved his country music and was a long-time member of the Grandmas and the Grandpas Band. He developed his self-taught artistic talents by painting and building miniature models of lighthouses, mills and old barns, many of which are exhibited throughout the city of Colonial Heights. He shared his talent through hand-painted Christmas cards sent to family and friends. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Redford Steger (Herbert) of Huntsville, Alabama and Susan Jane Redford and Jimmy Parrish of Colonial Heights; granddaughters, Claire Steger Renner (Danny) and Catherine Steger Castle (James) all of Toney, Alabama, Jennifer Wells Schott (Jeff) of Colonial Heights and Brandy Wells Damron (Steve) of Prince George County; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Clark Redford of Midlothian. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Reverend Bobby Lamb and the Reverend James Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Redford on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
