Walter Martin

Walter E. "Gene" Martin, 69, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at his residence. Born in Roxboro, NC, he was the son of the late James Calvin Martin, Sr. and was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Martin. Mr. Martin was a United States Army Veteran, a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #882, and a former member of the American Legion Post #284. He is survived by his loving daughter, Kimberly Beth Marcus of Richmond, VA; his mother, Minnie S. Martin of Colonial Heights; his devoted significant other, Becky Hammond of Dinwiddie; three brothers, Ray Martin (Py) of Hawaii, Emmett Martin (Pam) of North Carolina, and Jim "Dinky" Martin (Bonnie) of Chester; one sister, Nancy Taylor of Chesterfield. Special family, friends, and caregivers: John Skinner, Stan Chappell, Debbie Smith, Brenda Cornett, and Bubba Sanford; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017, with visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Pastor Paul W. Penland, officiating. Interment will be private.
