Walter Day McCann passed away peacefully, in his home, on January 28, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents; William J. and Josephine F. McCann, and by his sisters; Peggy Steward and Merle McCullough. Walter retired after 20 years of honorable service in the U.S. Army. During his service, he earned many commendations and awards. He also retired after 16 years of working for Dominion Resources. Walter was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rachel P. McCann, his sister Jo Polite, children; William J. McCann, Theresa L. Garrett and her husband, David, Patricia E. Aultman and her husband, David, granddaughter; Kelly M. Hearle and her husband, Ethan, great granddaughters; Maddy and Ginna Drewry, nephew; Danny Leveille, and wife, Elaine, niece; Debbie Munn and daughter, Devin, nephews; Jeff, David, Matthew, and Mark McCullough. Walter loved his family, traveling, and playing golf. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2017 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Buddy Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park Enon, Virginia.
