Walter P. Norwood, 81, of Colonial Heights, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 15, 2019. Born June 29, 1938, he was the son of the late Louise and Willie Norwood, and was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Irene G. Norwood; his daughters, Darlene Norwood, Arlene Turner and Yvonne Lyon; sisters, Elizabeth Marek, Mary Skelton and Docie Jones; and brothers, Roy Norwood and William Norwood.
Walter was a longtime member and Deacon of First Assembly of God in Petersburg. Pop, as everyone would call him, was a retired painter at Fort Lee Billeting.
He is survived by his son, Perry Norwood (Kim); a special son-in-law, Daniel Turner (Robin); son-in-law, David Lyon (Sherry); grandchildren, Jonathan Turner (Chelsea), Rebekah Jones (Jamison), and Matthew Norwood; and numerous nieces & nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at First Assembly of God, 25213 Ferndale Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803, with the Reverend Dwayne Walker and the Reverend Jonathan Turner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E.
