Walter Earl Turner, 88, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Colonial Heights Health Care Center. Born in Randolph County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Charlie Simpson and Rosina Adams Turner, and was preceded in death by his siblings, Elizabeth T. Moore, Charles A. Turner, and Lawrence A. Turner. Mr. Turner was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II. He was a lifetime tobacco farmer and carpenter. Mr. Turner is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rubie Taylor Turner; his children, Janice T. Chappell and husband, Earl, and Donald E. Turner and wife, Janet, all of Dinwiddie; four grandchildren, William E. Chappell, Jr. and wife, Lori, Brian K. Chappell and wife, Mary, David E. Turner, and Jamie L. Turner and wife, Courtney, all of Dinwiddie; four great-grandchildren, Matthew J. Chappell, Neal A. Chappell, Katie A. Chappell, and Kendall M. Chappell. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009, in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George with the Reverend Donna L. Mott officiating. The family will receive friends from 7- 8:30 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) at the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road.
