Wilbur Leon Stables, 75, of Chesterfield, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at MCV Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late Olyn L. and Nellie King Stables. Mr. Stables was preceded in death by a brother, Olyn Leroy Stables Jr.; a sister, Barbara Anne Oakley; a daughter, Lynette Stables Wright; and a grandson, Evan Kurt Davies. Mr. Stables was a member of Chester Baptist Church, and a retired technical engineer with 37 years of service for Honeywell. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Stables; children, Mandi Hughes and husband, Kenny, Nancy Davies and husband, Jim, Kristi Brittle and husband, Robert; a son-in-law, Larry Wright; grandchildren, Katie Cieslinski and husband, Michael, Travis Hughes, Sam Wright, Emily Hughes, Tommy Davies, Sarah Davies, and Molly Brittle; a sister, Gladys Stables Kennedy and husband, Donald; and "our" sister, Janis Stevens and husband, David. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2010 in Chester Baptist Church, 4317 W. School Street, Chester, Virginia 23831 with the Reverend Dr. Lloyd Braswell and the Reverend Dr. Ed Stansfield officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
