William Homer Ballard, Jr.

William Homer Ballard, Jr., 82, of Colonial Heights passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023. Born February 26, 1941, he was the son of the late Mildred Virginia and William Homer Ballard, Sr., and was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sara Ann Ballard.

William was a teacher at the Quartermaster School at Fort Lee for over 20 years, where he also wrote educational material. He was also a history teacher at Colonial Heights High School for a number of years. He enjoyed studying history and philosophy and was an avid Sci Fi enthusiast.

He is survived by his two sons, Jerry Franklin Ballard and wife, Deborah, William Homer Ballard III; and five grandchildren, Anna, Henry, Olivia, Charlie, and Xander Ballard.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will be private in Mount Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery, Charlottesville, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
